Music
Our school offers a range of music groups to support student learning. We have two school bands and two school choirs. Our music groups participate in school, local and state events throughout the year.
Band
Students in Years 4 - 6 (in 2026) are invited to join the Jannali East Public School Band.
In 2026, there will be both a training band and a performing band.
The following instruments are regularly offered as part of the Jannali East Public School Training Band:
Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Electric Bass Guitar, Glockenspiel/Xylophone, Percussion.
Band tutorials and rehearsals for 2026 will be held every Monday afternoon, beginning at 12:45 pm. Each student will receive one and a half hours of dedicated tutorial and rehearsal time each week to enhance their musical skills.
There are costs involved in joining the band, including tuition and or instrument hire. Please contact the school to make further enquiries.
Local events
The band regularly joins with other schools to participate in band camp, music performances or tours.
Band camp is an integral part of our band program for our performing band, and as such it is encouraged that students take advantage of this opportunity to extend their abilities by taking part in this intensive 2-day activity. It often occurs around June and takes place at The Tops Conference Centre Stanwell Tops.
During the camp, students participate in intensive workshops for individual instruments and combined whole group band rehearsals. Parents are then invited to a short concert on the last night.
There are costs associated with participating in this activity. Please seek further information from band coordinators.
Choir
At Jannali East Public School we have two choirs. The Junior (Years 2 - 3) and the Senior (Years 4 - 6) choir.
Local events
The school participates in the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival each year. The choirs learn a variety of repertoire set by the committee. Throughout the year we combine with other schools in our concert series and rehearse our repertoire. In August we take to the stage as part of the 2.5 week long festival. Often our cohorts not in choir or dance come along to watch the schools matinee performance too.
State events
There are many opportunities for our singers to be involved in state based events. We often have representatives at Pulse Alive, Choral festivals and many more. In 2025 our school's senior choir participated in Southern Stars. We had many combined rehearsals at various locations in Wollongong and participated in 4 full shows to a packed house with over 3000 other singers.
